Comparative study of earthquake disaster management in 2 countries of Essay
Comparative study of earthquake disaster management in 2 countries of Iran and Japan - Essay Example Iran could get a few pointers from the way Japan handles earthquake disasters. Foremost in the list is the means of predicting earthquakes. Due to Iranââ¬â¢s lack of apparent resources and technology, its prediction system is inaccurate and inefficient. Japanââ¬â¢s history with earthquakes coupled with its technological and financial prowess has greatly improved its early warning system. Mapping of critical areas and danger zones would be useful given Iranââ¬â¢s situation. City and building planning could also see Japan as an example. Iranââ¬â¢s relative poverty to Japan means it is harder to control city populations and habitat management. Life line resources particularly water should also be given priority particularly in Iranââ¬â¢s already arid climate. Japan has seen to it that rehabilitation of areas hit with earthquakes avoids mistakes that may have happened and intended to surpass post quake productivity and status. Rehabilitation of hit areas in Iran should sta rt as with Japanââ¬â¢s example, from planning, and then adequate construction methods. Japanââ¬â¢s emphasis on building design in relation to earthquakes has prevented maximum damage and improved safety during succeeding quakes. The emphasis on durable material as well as efficient building design has avoided additional casualties from fires and collapse. Japanââ¬â¢s forethought and analysis of events and factors regarding earthquakes as well as their systematic reaction to these factors have helped make Japan foremost in Earthquake management. Iran, facing the same threat would do well to learn from its Asian neighbor and attempt to adopt its protocols and procedures.

INDIVIDUAL INTERNATIONAL INTERVIEW & PAPER Assignment
INDIVIDUAL INTERNATIONAL INTERVIEW & PAPER - Assignment Example It lies within the latitudes 24 and 37 degree north and longitude 62 and 75 degree east. The country consists of five provinces - Baluchistan, Punjab, Sind, Khyber Pakhtun Khwa and Gilgit/Baltistan - and its capital is named Islamabad. Pakistan has one of the richest and most diverse cultures in the world. It is because this land had seen a number of invaders in the past including Whites, Persians, Turks and Mongols who had spread their own culture across this land. For this very reason we get to see diversity in culture throughout Pakistan with different ethnic groups having their own preferences when it comes to food, dressing, lifestyle etc. Increased globalization has brought further diversity to the country with Western culture increasingly being adopted by the people (ââ¬Å"Pakistan Cultureâ⬠, 2009). Ali himself comes from a Westernized background with many of his friends educated abroad, who love hanging out at international food chains and who openly drink. This defies my research since I found that alcohol was banned in Pakistan. But then there are so many things that are banned in the US too but still people do them. Religion shapes many of the Pakistanââ¬â¢s customs. ... Employment forms in Pakistan range from menial labor to jobs at multinational companies. The minimum wage per month of a Pakistani is Rs.10,000 (USD 100) and that is why many families live below the poverty line. Entrepreneurship has seen a rise in recent times and many people have switched to self created jobs. Induction of multinationals have brought good fortune to locals and created highly paid jobs. But people like Ali have moved out of the country for better job opportunities and better lifestyles. Since Pakistan is a developing country, the road network is not that of an international standard and is absent in much part of the country. Public transportation through buses is the most common means of traveling, with the slightly stable families using motor bikes and the ones economically sound use petrol and gas driven cars. Pakistan also has a sound air that connects cities and countries. Though a railway network is also present, the experience is not worth trying, says Ali. In frastructure within Pakistan varies from city to city. From mud houses to high rises, one can find it all. The metropolitan city homes a number of high rises and is a safe abode for businesses and other activities. Recently a sky-scraper by the name of Centaurus and designed by a British architectural company was officially inaugurated in the capital city. These developments hold a brighter future for the countryââ¬â¢s growth and economy. Pakistan is one of the two countries of the world, made on religious lines of Islam and that is what is practiced by the majority of citizens. Almost 98% of Pakistanis are Muslim while the remaining 2% are either Hindu, Christians or other minority groups. My research led me to believe that Pakistanis were taken by religion in every aspects of life but

Law and Environment Essay According to this appeals court, what errors were made by the judge at trial? The judge has made a judicial error by allowing the Plaintiffs counsel to comment on the case about Minichiellos boss being a German with an attitude of hatred and made forced analogies to Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. The judge also allowed irrelevant testimony, which asserted that the Club discriminated against Latinos, Jews, and African-Americans, to the issue of discrimination based on sexual orientation. I agree that awarding $20,000,000 was grossly excessive and has no rational basis, and was an error by the judge as well. 7. Sigmund Freuds The Interpretation of Dreams Essay -- Papers
Sigmund Freud's The Interpretation of Dreams Sigmund Freudââ¬â¢s The Interpretation of Dreams was originally published in 1900. The era was one of prudish Victorians. It was also the age of the continued Enlightenment. The New Formula of science, along with the legacy of Comteââ¬â¢s Positivism, had a firm hold on the burgeoning discipline of psychology. Freud was groomed as both scientist and Romantic, but his lifeââ¬â¢s work reflected conflict of the two backgrounds and a reaction against each one. It is my opinion that The Interpretation of Dreams was not simply written as a methodology of deconstructing dreams and assigning them meaning, but its latent content (as it were) was a critique of scienceââ¬â¢s New Formula, and was designed to question, and even undermine, the possibility of objective methodology in psychology, and indeed in the sciences as a whole. The importance of his innovations were wholly unappreciated; Freud was an anomaly. Many of his contemporaries rejected his work on the grounds of invalid methodology and inconsistency. Neurologists and psychiatrists today still continue to discount his theories. The point of Freudââ¬â¢s subversion of contemporary mental science, was, however, quite missed, and many critics and reviewers continue to systemically assail his work, utterly oblivious to the inclusive meaning of his theories, rather than the meanings of his words themselves. Clinical studies convinced Freud that hysterical symptoms could be analyzed and deconstructed to understandable statements expressive of some underlying and utterly logical thought. From this interest, Freud embarked on a comprehensive study of dreams, and in the process, created a theory that drew meaningful attention to the unconscious, a previousl... ...ertain concepts, such as depth of mind, latent meanings, wish-fulfilments, etc.,--all of which remain valuable in themselves, in spite of Freudââ¬â¢s parallel objective of crushing positivistic natural science. Freudââ¬â¢s work has provided a paradigm through historical findings and future investigations, leaving him as pioneer of the unconscious through his unmasking of dreams. And lastly, in spite of science and philosophyââ¬â¢s tendencies to exploit the theoryââ¬â¢s weaknesses instead of strengths, the deeper aim of the text, as unmasker of Positivismââ¬â¢s weaknesses, can no longer be ignored in its hermeneutic exploration. The Mozart Effect - 3416 Words
Have you ever hear the old saying ââ¬Å"Mozart makes babies smarterâ⬠? Can a mother simply playing Mozart while the infant sleeps actually increase her babyââ¬â¢s brain function? Well there is now evidence that this once perceived ââ¬Ëold wives taleââ¬â¢ is actually true. The studies done to prove this seemingly bizarre event have deemed it, The Mozart Effect. The Mozart Effect is a set of research results that indicate that listening to Mozarts music may induce a short-term improvement on the performance of certain kinds of mental tasks known as ââ¬Å"spatial-temporal reasoningâ⬠. Spatial-temporal reasoning is the ability to visualize mental pictures of spatial patterns and mentally changing them over a time-ordered sequence of spatial transformations. Thisâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Other researchers were unable to reproduce the findings but others confirmed the theory that listening to Mozarts sonata K448 produced a small increase in spatial-temporal performance. These improvements were measured by various tests derived from the Stanfordââ¬âBinet scale such as paper-cutting and folding procedures or pencil-and-paper maze tasks. Rauscher has stressed that the Mozart effect is only limited to spatial temporal reasoning and that there is no enhancement of general intelligence; some of the negative results, she thinks, could be attributed to inappropriate test procedures (Jenkins). Many have criticized these positive findings in saying that these effects are due to the ââ¬Ëenjoyment arousalââ¬â¢ and that these same findings would not be present if the subject had no appreciation for classical music. These opinions of the effect are countered by a study done on rats by the University of Wisconsin in 1998. Rats were exposed in utero plus 60 days post-partum to either complex music (Mozart Sonata (k. 448)), minimalist music (a Philip Glass composition), white noise or silence, and were then tested for five days in a multiple T-maze. By Day 3, the rats exposed to the Mozart work completed the maze more rapidly and with fewer errors than the rats assigned to the other groups. The difference increased in magnitude through Day 5. This suggests that repeated exposure to complex music induces improved spatial-temporal learning in rats,Show MoreRelatedThe Mozart Effect Essay1461 Words à |à 6 Pagesââ¬Å"M ozart effectâ⬠is a believe that listening to music could enhance individualsââ¬â¢ intelligence, and therefore lead to better performance in various spheres, such as languages and arithmetics. Google Vs. Google Privacy Policy - 1349 Words
Internet companies like Google and others collect and store individual customer profile as a requirement to provide free services like search, webmail, web storage and social networking services. Official Google Privacy policy states: ââ¬Å"When you use Google services, you trust us with your information.â⬠.
